Scarlett Vera will be one of six bands supporting ROCK FOR PORRIDGE Battle of the Bands for Uganda Children on July 31, 2010 at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD. The event is being hosted by Journey's Crossing, and all proceeds will benefit its porridge outreach to the children of Uganda.

This event promises to be a night of great music to benefit a school in Uganda. All proceeds go towards the 190 Program, a food program that provides porridge to school children in Kabale, Uganda for an entire school year - 190 days. Join us in the fight against poverty!

Scarlett Vera will be performing its fan favorite, Nightmare, and will be unveiling its refined sound with two original new tracks as well. Be among the first to hear their new music before it hits the general public! Come out to support this amazing outreach and hear some incredible live music from of the DC area's most promising bands.

In an effort to help capture my thoughts a lot better, I will be restarting this blog. It may be much as it was before - a mish-mash of different things I might talk about, but hopefully it will be a much more active piece of web-based reading for those that actually follow it.

Progressive Nation 2009

Very excited about the upcoming Progressive Nation Tour coming to Columbia, MD on 1 August. The tour is being headlined by Dream Theater and Zappa Plays Zappa and this particular show will be a one off concert with a special appearance by Queensryche. Tommy and Gemma Grey are coming too (mainly for Queensryche) and we've got great seats for the show. Should be a great time!

Deep Creek Lake

At the moment, I am fighting off a pretty mean headache. Not much fun when at work, but alas I will attempt to make every effort to get through the rest of the day in a somewhat productive manner.

Weekend before last, Captain Fabulous and I enjoyed a wonderful getaway to Deep Creek Lake in upper Maryland. We stayed at a very nice B&B that has enjoyed our patronage before and really took some time for some much needed R&R. Fab, especially, has been under the proverbial gun at work for lots of things and so it was nice to see her much more relaxed. We enjoyed some kayaking on the lake, some hiking in the surrounding trails, and lots of time recuperating at the Inn. Some movies, a hot tub to soothe the sore joints, ample supplies of fruit and fresh baked cookies (along with a small provision of Prosecco we brought from home) definitely enabled us to unwind. Humorously, we discovered that our neighbors above us were using the hot tub too. At first we thought someone was having a little trouble getting in and out but after a while we had a firm sense that the party above was using it for much more amorous recreational activities. The following night we heard the same sounds coming from above and Fab very smartly remarked, “Oh! Sounds like they are firing up the Slip N’ Slide.”

In any case, this was an overdue getaway for us and while it did make for a very abrupt return to work – which smarted a bit like a smack in the face – it was well timed, incredibly pleasant, and provided us with ample reason to return.
